Jean-Philippe Désius Follows Promptings and Moves Forward with Faith

Jean-Philippe Désius was attending university when he faced a harsh reality that many students face. He could no longer afford to continue his education. “When I prayed about what to do, I was prompted to apply to LDS Business College, even though I did not know how I was going to afford it,” he remembers.

The student from Pétionville, Haiti, moved forward with faith. To his relief, he received a scholarship to LDSBC. “The scholarship encouraged me to work even harder to get good grades,” he says. “It encouraged me to keep paying my tithing, remain obedient to the Lord’s commandments, and pay my blessings forward.”

Jean-Philippe loved the location and spiritual atmosphere of LDSBC. And his two years of studying server administration and network engineering served as a catalyst for his future career. Although balancing family and student life was difficult, Jean-Philippe graduated in April 2015 without debt, and his degree brought him immediate success. “I found an entry-level job in my field in the Church Office Building,” he says. “It was a great start for my career.” He credits his LDSBC classes—which taught him how to target companies, network with the right people, and develop strategies for interviews—with helping him land the job.

“LDSBC enlightened my mind,” says Jean-Philippe. “It pushed me to find my best career options, and it sparked the burning flame of success in me.”

While at LDSBC, Jean-Philippe also acquired skills that improved his daily and spiritual life. “I became more spiritual than ever before,” he says. “I received a lot more promptings and revelations on how to conduct my life and what decisions would benefit my family.” He learned how to build credit and manage personal finances. And many friends and mentors guided him throughout his schooling.

Jean-Philippe knows he would not be where he is today without the generous gifts of donors. “I am and will be forever grateful for their contribution to my success,” he says. “Their act of generosity has strengthened my testimony of what the pure love of Christ really is. I have felt the love of Christ through their generosity and want them to know that they have contributed to saving generations. They have inspired me to do the same for others.”
