Twenty-two years ago, Ann Howell and her husband, Elmer, felt a need to support The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Donating small amounts to educational purposes such as the Perpetual Education Fund, welding classes in Mexico, and BYUtv, the Howells enjoyed helping others. “We always felt like we could do something,” says Ann.

Along with helping others, the How-ells became world travelers. On a trip to Brazil to visit one of Ann’s former companions from Ann’s mission in Argentina, the Howells learned about BYU-Pathway Worldwide from this companion’s husband, who was assisting in their local ward’s welfare initiatives. Ann recalls her and Elmer thinking, “We believe in a worldwide Church education. How do we help across the world? How do we level the playing field?” With piqued interest, the Howells learned more about and became steady contributors to BYU-Pathway Worldwide.

Elmer passed away 10 years ago, but feeling a need to interact globally and maintain their global service, Ann continues to travel and support students around the world because she knows how important people are. “People matter,” she says.

“Little things matter. Some need a smile or some type of kindness. I love to meet people and get to know them. I want to bring blessings to everyone.”
