Lewis Garner’s dream job is to be a university music professor, specifically teaching the cello. “I hope to become the best cello teacher there ever was,” he says, “inspiring the hearts of my students to produce great music!” For Garner, from Boise, Idaho, his passion lies with playing his cello. When he graduated from high school, he was offered scholarships to attend some prestigious institutions to study music, but he came to BYU-Idaho after his mission to North Dakota. “I have been really pleased with the program here at BYU-Idaho. My professors are very accommodating and helpful.” Garner relishes the opportunity that BYU-Idaho provides to perform in different scenarios. He is helping with an opera production and plays in a string quartet. He recognizes that he is able to pursue his dream career because of the generosity of BYU-Idaho donors. “I can’t thank you enough for your help,” he says, “and I promise to pay it forward once I’m established and have a position to support educating the younger generation. Thank you, thank you, thank you!”
