The Hill Cumorah Project
Last year, once it was clear that the Hill Cumorah Pageant would not return, construction began. You likely heard reports of demolition last year. This year has been the year of rehabilitation.
- Trees and wildflowers have been planted where the pageant stage once stood.
- There are new pathways, including better ADA access all the way to the monument.
- There are also some new trail signs that adopt the Church’s recent guidelines for visual engagement and readability. Don’t they look nice!
The hill is open to the public. Trees will need many years to grow. If you visit the hill right now, it may look a little unkempt as we let native grasses grow up and seedlings sprout. During all this, it already feels very peaceful on the hill. Plans are underway to remodel the Hill Cumorah Visitors’ Center with exhibits about the history of the hill. It will include stories of the monument and pageant, but it will focus on Joseph Smith’s experiences there with Moroni from 1823 to 1827.
