General Missionary Fund

In record numbers, young men and young women from around the globe are feeling the desire to serve. Not all have the financial resources, however, to fully fund a full-time mission. Generous donors provide needed funding so that all who want to serve a full-time mission may do so.

Your Donations at Work

During 2021 we saw the number of missionaries begin to increase slightly from the previous year as vaccinations became available and COVID-19 restrictions began to ease. In December 2021 there were approximately 54,500 full-time missionaries sharing the gospel message in more than 160 countries throughout the world. Statistics are as of December 31, 2021.

In 2021, as pandemic-related restrictions eased in many parts of the world, missionary training centers were reopened to on-site training. By the end of the year, all missionary training centers were operating with on-site missionaries except the New Zealand MTC (due to local restrictions). New missionaries receive training first at home and later (when possible) at an on-site MTC. Based on conditions throughout the world, the number of missionaries who received on-site training at an MTC reached 75 percent in December 2021.

You Can Help

More than 35 percent of the current missionary force needs at least partial assistance from the General Missionary Fund to serve. In 2013, President Monson invited members to help support these missionaries in their efforts to serve the Lord in a meaningful way. Donations really do help “change and save lives.”

A Note from David N. Weidman

Managing Director, Missionary Department

On behalf of the Missionary Department and missionaries around the world, we express our deep gratitude for your thoughtful donation. At a time when so many people face both physical and spiritual scarcity in their lives, your support will strengthen the missionaries as they offer a lasting abundance that only the gospel of Jesus Christ can bring. Because of you, the temporal burdens of these divinely commissioned servants may be lightened, more missionaries may be able to focus fully on their sacred purpose, and the light of the restored gospel may spread more efficiently throughout the world.

During the past year, we have marveled at the growth in missionary work. We have seen the Lord’s abundant blessings in the miraculously increasing number of young people choosing to serve missions. We have witnessed His hand in the rapidly developing technology and tools that are helping missionaries serve more effectively and have faith-building experiences. We have felt especially His divine guidance during the preparation of the second edition of Preach My Gospel, which was published and distributed worldwide in the latter half of 2023.

Your offering will help continue to transform this great work and bless missionaries and those they teach for decades to come. We pray that our Heavenly Father will “fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost” (Romans 15:13). May we keep moving forward together in this ever-changing world to share the Savior’s abundant love and to invite all to come unto Jesus Christ.
