Student Video Contest: What is the Abundant Life?
Students, submit your entries to our Summer 2023 video contest!
Create an emotionally impactful video that answers the question What is the abundant life? Entries should emphasize the blessings of giving but can also include the following themes:
- Living the gospel of Jesus Christ
- Caring for those in need
- Inviting all to receive the gospel
- Uniting families for eternity
We welcome a variety of personal, family, church, professional, or community perspectives. Be creative and show what an abundant life looks like to you.
Winning videos will be shared at the biennial Gift Planning Professionals Conference hosted by Philanthropies and will be shared on social media platforms and with individual donors.
Prizes
Winning entries will receive a cash prize of up to $2,500. Multiple entrants may receive that amount, depending upon the number and quality of submissions.
Deadline
The deadline to submit a video HAS BEEN EXTENDED two weeks to Sunday, July 2, at 11:59pm MST. All forms and uploads must be completed by that time to be eligible for prizes. Late videos will not be considered.
Original Content
Videos can use a variety of media (audio, visuals, graphics) but should not be strictly a slideshow of images. Videos must have been originally created for this contest.
Church Standards
Subject matter should uphold the standards and behaviors espoused by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Audio/Music
All audio/music included in video submissions must be original content, come from a free source (such as those listed on the BYU Copyright website), or be licensed to the student submitting the video. Videos that use copyrighted music or audio without a license or that violate the license terms of use will be disqualified. You will be required to list your audio/music source(s) and attach a copy of the audio/music licenses for those sources (if applicable) on your submission form.
Format and Length
Please ensure that your video meets the following requirements:
- The video must be less than two minutes long
- The video must not exceed 100 MB
- The video file must be in a supported YouTube file format
We are not expecting professional submissions but encourage you to submit the highest quality video possible. The submission form can be found at the bottom of this page.
Professional Consulting
Consulting services are available for students who would like some general guidance on the ideation or creation of their video submissions for this contest. If you would like this assistance, please email our Publishing Services Producer at jrutherford@ChurchofJesusChrist.org to schedule a half-hour session.
Judging
The video submissions will be judged by a panel of Philanthropies and Publishing Services employees, and the winners will be announced in July 2023. You are encouraged to be creative and experiment with style, genre, and imagery. The best submissions will
- Inspire the audience to live an abundant life
- Demonstrate the importance of the gospel of Jesus Christ
- Communicate a concept successfully
- Tell an impactful story
- Evoke an emotional response through humor, sincerity, or drama
- Respond to the themes of the contest (shared above) creatively
- Incorporate a variety of shots (such as narration, interviews, and action shots)

Original Content
All film entries must be the original creation of the entrant and must have been created for this contest. Videos that have been submitted for other contests or that have received awards in other contests are ineligible. Videos that have been distributed or have aired previously are also ineligible. By completing a submission form, you are verifying the originality of the video and compliance with contest rules.
Appropriate Content
Your entry may not defame or invade the rights or privacy of any person, living or deceased, or otherwise infringe upon any third-party personal or proprietary rights. Any entrant whose work includes likenesses of third parties or contains elements not owned by the entrant must be able to provide legal releases for such use. Your entry must not be offensive or contain questionable or inappropriate content as determined by judges in their sole discretion. Videos that violate these terms will be disqualified.
Copyright
You retain all copyright interest in and ownership of the video submitted; however, by submitting the video, you irrevocably grant and assign to Philanthropies (and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) and its affiliates a non-exclusive, worldwide, perpetual, and royalty-free license to use, modify, reproduce, publish, and distribute your video in any form of media and/or technology now known or to be developed, without limitation or restriction.
Publicity and Privacy Rights
By submitting a video, you hereby grant to Philanthropies (and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints), and its affiliates and assigns, the right to use your name, picture, voice, silhouette, likeness, and biographical information in connection with your video submission, including any and all rights to exhibit or distribute recordings or edits thereof in whole or in part without restriction or limitation, and in any medium whether now known or yet to be discovered. By submitting a video, you hereby release Philanthropies (and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) and its affiliates and assigns from any and all claims and demands related to such use of your talent, image, voice, or performances, including any and all claims for libel or invasion of privacy, in connection with the video.
Consent to Terms
By entering, you acknowledge compliance with these official rules, including all eligibility requirements, and give consent to Philanthropies (and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) to use your film for marketing purposes, which may include use on the Philanthropies website, YouTube channels, and social media platforms.
