Speaker Bios

Brent Andrewsen, Kirton McConkie

Mr. Andrewsen is Chair of the Kirton McConkie’s Tax and Estate Planning and a member of the Corporate section. His practice includes estate planning, probate and trust administration, gift taxation, tax-exempt organizations, charitable trusts and planned giving. Mr. Andrewsen also has advised clients with respect to business matters and has assisted in forming various business entities and transactions. He is a frequent speaker on issues regarding tax-exempt organizations, planned giving, estate planning, and related topics. In addition to his professional work, he has sat on the boards of various charitable organizations over the years.

Mr. Andrewsen has an AV PreeminentTM peer rating from Martindale-Hubbell and is recognized as one of Utah's Legal Elite for estate planning, a Mountain States Super Lawyer for estate planning and non-profits and a Best Lawyer for trusts/estates and nonprofit/charities. He was also honored by Utah Business magazine as a 40 Under 40 Rising Star.

Tanise Chung-Hoon; Managing Director, Philanthropies

Tanise Chung-Hoon was appointed managing director for Philanthropies in August 2013. Her responsibilities include overseeing fundraising at the Church higher-education institutions (BYU, BYU-Hawaii, BYU-Idaho, and LDS Business College) as well as approved Church programs and priorities, such as the missionary, self-reliance services, and humanitarian aid funds. Prior to becoming managing director, Chung-Hoon served as the executive director of development for Philanthropies BYU and also had responsibilities in the Office of the President and in Principal Gifts, working with the BYU President’s Leadership Council. Prior to joining Philanthropies in 2002, Chung-Hoon worked for seven years at Utah Valley University. She received a BS in business finance from BYU and an MEd from the University of Utah and was awarded her PhD in higher education administration with an emphasis in organizational strategy and philanthropy from BYU. She and her husband, Kaiwi, are the parents of three children, and they have three grandchildren.

President Clark Gilbert, BYU-Idaho President

Clark G. Gilbert became the 16th president of Brigham Young University-Idaho in April 2015.

President Gilbert brings a range of academic and professional experiences to his assignment in Rexburg. Prior to coming to BYU-Idaho in 2015, President Gilbert served as CEO of Deseret News Publishing Company and Deseret Digital Media. He also served as an associate academic vice president at BYU-Idaho, overseeing online learning and the Pathway program. As a deeply committed teacher, President Gilbert had administrative responsibility for the Learning Model at BYU-Idaho. Prior to coming to Rexburg, he was a professor of entrepreneurial management at the Harvard Business School where he taught and studied in the field of organizational innovation.

President Gilbert graduated from Brigham Young University with a bachelor’s degree in International Relations. He earned a master’s degree in East Asian Studies from Stanford University and a doctorate degree in Business Administration from the Harvard Business School.

President Gilbert was born in California and raised in Arizona. After serving as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Japan, he married his wife, Christine. They are the parents of eight children.

Fiona Givens, Acclaimed Author

Fiona Givens was born in Nairobi, educated in British convent schools, and converted to the LDS church in Frankfurt-am-Main. Since retiring as a teacher of French and German in Richmond, Virginia schools, she has become a full-time independent scholar. Fiona is a frequent podcast speaker and presenter at conferences and Deseret Book’s Time Out for Women series, and has published in Journal of Mormon HistoryLDS LivingExponent II, Dialogue, and other venues. With Terryl Givens, she is the author of The God Who Weeps: How Mormonism Makes Sense of Life and The Crucible of Doubt: Reflections on the Quest for Faith. She is currently at work with her husband on The Christ Who HealsRediscovering Discipleship.

In the past few years, Fiona and Terryl have visited some 20 countries, giving talks and firesides on the challenges we face along our spiritual journeys. In the most recent twelve months, they have spoken to Latter-day Saints in Kosovo, Albania, Austria, Germany, England, Italy, and at several venues throughout the United States. She and Terryl make their home in Montpelier, Virginia.

Todd Hallock; Hallock & Hallock

Todd is an attorney and founding shareholder with the law firm of Hallock & Hallock, a professional corporation.  Todd serves clients throughout Utah, Idaho and Arizona and practices law in the areas of Estate Planning (Wills, Trusts, Advance Health Care Directives, Power of Attorney), Business Planning (Formation through Succession), Asset Protection, Farm & Ranch Planning, Charitable Planning, Special Needs Planning, Trust Administration and Probate.  Todd is deeply committed to a relationship based approach to serving the needs of his clients.  Todd believes that every client is unique with his or her own story to tell.  By understanding that story, he is better able to understand the goals and objectives of his clients and develop a custom estate plan or business plan that will best serve the client and their family.  Todd firmly believes in the importance of regular review and maintenance of the plan.  It is only through regular review and maintenance that the plan will be properly funded and continue to reflect the client’s goals and objectives.

Todd is a native of Mesa, Arizona and currently resides in Lewiston, Utah with his wife and law partner Sara, and their four amazing children. He obtained a degree in History from Arizona State University and received his law degree from the Brigham Young University, J. Reuben Clark School of Law, both with honors.  Todd has been recognized as one of Utah’s Legal elite in the field of Estate Planning by Utah Business Magazine.

In 1996, Todd opened the Law Offices of Todd N. Hallock in Logan, Utah. In 1997 Todd’s wife, Sara Nelson Hallock, joined the practice and the firm officially became Hallock & Hallock.  Prior to founding Hallock & Hallock, Todd worked for law firms in Salt Lake City, Utah and Phoenix, Arizona.

Todd is a member of the Philanthropies Gift Planning Council where he previously served as Vice-Chair.  He is also a member of the Estate Planning Council of Northern Utah; Wealth Counsel; Elder Counsel; the Taxation, Probate and Trust Law Section of the Idaho State Bar; and the Estate Planning Section of the Utah State Bar. Todd has previously served on a Legislative Ad Hoc Committee organized by the Estate Planning Section of the Utah State Bar to make recommendations regarding changes to the Utah Uniform Probate Code.  He has also previously served as president of the Estate Planning Council of Northern Utah, president of the Cache County Bar Association and Chair of the Logan, Utah Chapter of the J. Reuben Clark Law Society.

Away from work, Todd enjoys spending time with his family, running, hiking and golfing.  He is a devoted fan of Arizona State University athletics.

Dr. Marianne Jennings; Arizona State University

Dr. Marianne M. Jennings, Emeritus Professor of Legal and Ethical Studies, has taught at the WP Carey School of Business, Arizona State University from 1977 through the present.  She has six textbooks and four monographs in circulation in the areas of business ethics, ethical culture, and legal environment She was director of the Lincoln Center for Applied Ethics from 1995 to 1999. She is a contributing editor of Perspectives and Real Estate Law Journal. Two of her books have been named Library Journal’s book of the year. Her books have been translated into three languages. Her book, The Seven Signs of Ethical Collapse, was published by St Martin’s Press and has been used as both an audit tool and a primer by numerous organizations for creating and sustaining an ethical culture.

In 2011, she was named one of the Top 100 Thought Leaders by Trust Across America and in 2012, she was named one of the 100 most influential people in business ethics by Ethisphere magazine.

She served on the board of directors for Arizona Public Service (now Pinnacle West), the owner of the Palo Verde Nuclear Station, from 1987 through 2000.  She has served on INPO’s advisory council since 2005. In 2015, she was named an affiliated scholar with the Center for the Study of Economic Liberty at Arizona State University. She conducts ethics training and ethical culture assessments for businesses, including Fortune 100 companies, government agencies, professional associations, and nonprofit organizations.

Jerry L. Reynolds; Technical Compliance, Philanthropies

Jerry Reynolds earned his Baccalaureate degree in Accounting from Brigham Young University in 1977. He also earned his Juris Doctor from Brigham Young University’s Law School in 1980. He is a member of the Utah State Bar Association. Prior to joining Philanthropies, Jerry practiced law in Provo, Utah, with an emphasis in real estate law, banking law, commercial law, and wills, trusts, and estates. He has been with Philanthropies since 1999.

Liz Wiseman; President, The Wiseman Group

Liz Wiseman teaches leadership to executives and emerging leaders around the world. She is the President of The Wiseman Group, a leadership research and development firm headquartered in Silicon Valley. Some of her recent clients include: Apple, Disney, eBay/PayPal, Facebook, GAP, Google, Microsoft, Nike, Roche, Salesforce.com, and Twitter. Liz has been listed on the Thinkers50 ranking and named as one of the top 10 leadership thinkers in the world and recipient of the 2016 ATD Champion of Talent Award.

She is the author of three best-selling books: Rookie Smarts: Why Learning Beats Knowing in the New Game of Work, Multipliers: How the Best Leaders Make Everyone Smarter and The Multiplier Effect: Tapping the Genius Inside Our Schools. She has conducted significant research in the field of leadership and collective intelligence and writes for Harvard Business Review and Fortune and her work has appeared in the Wall Street Journal, Fast Company, Entrepreneur, Inc. and Time magazines. She is a frequent guest lecturer at BYU, and Stanford University.

A former executive at Oracle Corporation, she worked over the course of 17 years as the Vice President of Oracle University and as the global leader for Human Resource Development. During her tenure at Oracle, she led several major global initiatives and has worked and traveled in over 40 countries.

Liz holds a Bachelors degree in Business Management and a Masters of Organizational Behavior from Brigham Young University. Liz lives in Menlo Park, California with her husband and four children who share her over-active curiosity and sense of adventure.
