Vision

family-history-items

Learning about ancestors helps us better understand who we are. FamilySearch’s vision is carried out by dedicated employees and volunteers who work tirelessly to preserve and share the largest collection of genealogical and historical records in the world. FamilySearch strives to create and link the best and most valuable research resources to help people discover who they are by exploring where they came from.

For over 100 years, FamilySearch and its predecessors have been actively gathering, preserving, and sharing genealogical records worldwide. They offer many services for free to the world, including image capture, digital conversion, preservation, online indexing, and online access to records and documents. Help with the effort either by volunteering time or making a donation online.

"When our hearts turn to our ancestors, something changes inside us. We feel part of something greater than ourselves."

- President Russell M. Nelson

A Note from Steve Rockwood

CEO, FamilySearch International Managing Director, Family History Department

Brothers and Sisters, we thank you for your unique and generous contributions to the worldwide temple and family history efforts that directly contribute to the gathering of Israel on both sides of the veil.

FamilySearch has experienced both challenges and miracles during the pandemic. While the temporary closing of many archives has significantly curtailed our global digitization operations of over 300 FamilySearch camera crews, we have still enjoyed unprecedented increases in this sacred work. For example, since FamilySearch.org launched 22 years ago, eight of the top 10 months in patron usage occurred in 2020. We have seen significant increases in computerassisted and volunteer indexing of hundreds of millions of genealogical records in multiple languages. We introduced three new features to help new and beginning patrons make more family discoveries. And in 2021, we achieved another historic milestone that has been literally decades in the making—successfully completing the digitization of our 2.4 million rolls of microfilm. This has unlocked the names of literally billions of people who can now be discovered, gathered, and connected into the family tree of humanity.
