Logan Page, a senior at Ensign College, is thriving, thanks to the college’s new podcast. Page was one of the first students hired to work on Ensign College’s Thrive Podcast at Studio E nearly a year and a half ago. Though he started out as a videographer and photographer, he has since worked his way up to become the show’s director and producer.
Thrive Podcast was started as a way to give students the opportunity to create and produce digital media while earning their certificates and bachelor’s degrees. “At Ensign College, we already do a lot. It is an applied school, so we’re not just sitting there in classes—we’re actually doing the kind of things we would be doing in jobs,” Page explains. “But Studio E takes that a step further. We get real-world clients to work with, both nationally and internationally, and we create different digital content for them.”
Thrive Podcast originates from a state-of-the-art production studio known as Studio E, which is located on the Ensign College campus. Ensign College President Bruce C. Kusch and Greg Fox, the associate director of alumni and employer relations, host the podcast and discuss faith, leadership, and purpose with a special guest selected for the episode.
Working on this podcast has helped Page improve not only his technical skills but also his leadership skills. He has learned how to lead and direct other students and how to contact and work with guests. “Thrive Podcast helped me gain the skills to be more marketable in the workplace,” Page says. But working on this show has also strengthened his confidence in ways no classroom experience could. “It helped me really get out of myself,” he shares. “I’m usually a very shy person, and I try to avoid public speaking. But working with Studio E meant having to talk with many CEOs and leaders in the Church. It really has helped me find my voice.”
This past July, Page was the only student from Ensign College selected to travel and present at HigherEd PodCon, a national podcasting conference. There were 100 attendees at the conference, and only a handful of them were students. With help and encouragement from Joseph Kerry, President Kusch, and others, Page worked to prepare and present on their work with the podcast. This incredible opportunity has been a highlight of his Ensign College experience.
To those who have donated to Ensign College, Page shares this message of gratitude: “Thank you! This has helped me immensely as I prepare for my future, and I’ll be relying upon these skills for the rest of my career. Thank you for your generosity and for helping me pursue my dreams!”
