Giving Back One Step at a Time
“Let’s be good stewards of the resources that the Lord has trusted us with.”

For more than two decades, D. Louise Brown has been inspired by Ensign College students and has sought opportunities to help them fulfill their educational dreams.
In 2001 Brown started working part-time for the college—then known as LDS Business College (LDSBC)—while finishing her schooling at Weber State University. After graduating in 2005, she moved to a full-time position at LDSBC, eventually serving as the college’s director of public affairs for 10 years. During that time, she gained a love for students that continues to this day.
Brown and her husband, John, have long been examples of offering unconditional love and service to others, and they taught their children from an early age to do the same. Parents of four children and grandparents of 10 grandchildren, the Browns have also housed 10 additional children and young adults, even inviting an Ensign College student into their home when that student’s housing fell through.
Brown first became aware of opportunities to donate through Philanthropies during her time at LDSBC. Later, she and her husband decided to create an endowment to help support Ensign College students like those she loved and admired while she was working at the school. Brown says, “There is a deep and underlying satisfaction that comes from knowing the endowment we created continues, lives, and will live long past us and continue to bless lives of students.”
In 2008, Brown was instrumental in the creation of the Fox Society. She is grateful to be a member and enjoys meeting with friends at President’s Dinner, attending events on campus, and interacting with students. She appreciates being able to see firsthand how the gospel is included in each class and how Ensign helps strengthen the faith of its students.
For Brown, encouraging others to join the society is easy because she knows how rewarding it is to see your contributions bless students’ lives and change the course of their families for generations to come. She explains, “Any money donated through the Fox Society helps many students. My observation would be that you have an expanded opportunity as a contributor or donor to bless more lives in the skills-based education field with the Fox Society than any other society.” An added benefit—since the cost of an education at Ensign College is more affordable than other universities, the funds donated can be “spread further and can help more young people,” she says.
