When Jackson Holmes returned home from his mission in 2020, he knew he wanted to start his higher education journey right away. He was originally planning to attend a local college in Colorado, but an advertisement for a Returned Missionary Scholarship at Ensign College changed those plans. Following the Spirit’s direction, Holmes decided to give Ensign College a try for at least a semester. He loved his experience so much that he stayed for four years and earned his bachelor’s degree in business management.
During his time at Ensign, he received several scholarships. He explains how important those scholarships were to him: “Each [scholarship] along the way was probably the reason that I stayed in school.”
To those who donate, Holmes says, “Your donations mean so much to people like me, and they have made education so obtainable. The scholarships have enabled me to start a family debt free, to have a job that I love at Church headquarters, and to grow beyond my own capacity.” He continues, “It’s a huge blessing in my life. It is part of a chain of events that has helped me help other people too.”
Now Holmes works for the Church as a production coordinator managing projects for broadcast and live events, including Ensign College devotionals. It is a full-circle moment every time he returns, and he enjoys being able to see teachers, professors, and administrators who helped him develop into a capable and trusted disciple of Jesus Christ.
Looking back, Holmes can see the many ways Ensign College transformed his life. He says, “Ensign College was the school for me because of the opportunities that it provided. The scholarships I received were a huge blessing. Thank you to the donors who made that possible.”
As Holmes continues in his career, he hopes to be able to have more full-circle moments by donating to a scholarship fund or creating one of his own. He says, “I know how much it changed my life, and I want to be able to give that to other students too.”
