While living in Venezuela with her husband and three kids, Yasmin Fernandez and her family decided to move to Florida in search of a better life. After meeting with the missionaries and joining The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Fernandez participated in the first BYU-Pathway Worldwide program in Orlando in 2016. In 2017, she enrolled at BYU-Idaho to pursue a degree in business management. “I wanted to be an example for my children and grandkids that we can do anything once we put our minds to it,” she says. Because of the generosity of donors, Fernandez was provided with a scholarship to continue her education. “I was in a difficult financial situation, and the scholarship helped me to continue at Brigham Young University-Idaho. If I didn’t receive that help, I would not have been able to register for other courses.” As she finishes the requirements for her degree, which she will complete in fall of 2021, Yasmin says, “I am forever grateful to the donor of my scholarship. Their generosity has blessed me with the opportunity to finish my degree.” In addition to obtaining her degree, Fernandez has grown in other areas, specifically in her relationship with the Savior: “I think that studying at a faithbased institution has helped me strengthen my testimony of our Savior. I feel the need to share what I have learned with others.”
